When you have a fish pond it is nice to have some place to sit and feed the fishes, watch them swim and watch the butterflies and dragonflies.  The problem is that when you have a pond that is supposed to look natural, a regular bench or seat does not look right because it looks too man-made.  So when I made my large pond I created two stone benches that are not geometrically shaped, in fact they almost look like two piles of rocks but they are actually fairly comfortable to sit on.

benchright.jpg (20771 bytes)This is the Right bench, click on it for a larger version.  A few months before I made these benches I saw a girl and a guy sitting on a bench at a water garden and I noticed that they were not using much space on the bench because they were sitting so closely.  After seeing that, I designed my benches so that the width is equal to the width of two normal people sitting side by side with no space between them.  I refer to this design concept as "forced closeness" or "forced intimacy."
