More about AGN
I’m back from my little vacation in Virginia. Since my last entry, I’ve read a lengthy paper by Phil Hopkins regarding “How disks survive mergers”, an annual review entitled “Unified Models for Active Galactic Nuclei and Quasars”, and a paper discussing the effect of black hole spin on AGN. Soon, I’ll read more about the physics responsible for the jet and the details of the accretion disk. This seems to be a topic about which relatively little is actually understood.
I e-mailed John Dubinski to see if I could get a copy of his MYRIAD visualization code. Unfortunately, he says that the code is basically a “mess” right now and there’s almost no documentation, so I should try something else. I haven’t actively worked on the visualization component for a few days, but I’ve pretty thoroughly planned the simple N-body simulations. I just need to get back to work on coding and make a decision regarding the visualization method. I can always modify the code to use a better visualization tool later.
