About me

My wedding day (standing with my new brother-in-law)Welcome to my home on the World Wide Web. My name is Nathaniel Stickley.  I recently completed my Ph.D. in physics at the University of California, Riverside. My research was in theoretical astrophysics. The label “theoretical” is used to distinguish my work from observational astronomy. It would be more precise to label my current work as “numerical modeling and analysis of astrophysical systems.” In other words, I write software and use software written by other researchers to learn about astrophysical systems—specifically, galaxies.

I might be described as an “astrophysicist,” “physicist,” or simply a “scientist,” but I am also a software engineer, a teacher, a researcher, an author, an artist, a gardener, an amature  photographer, a husband, a son, a brother, and a father!

In this section of my website, you can find out a little about who I am. You can learn about my family and my life story. I’ve also included a list of people who have significantly influenced me on an acknowledgements page.

There’s a page describing my short-term and long-term goals and hopes.

I’m planning to also include a page about my hobbies, a page about the Shenandoah Valley, and a list of some of my favorite things or a “likes and dislikes” page.

This webpage is a hobby; it progresses slowly because I have to work on many other things simultaneously.  There are many blank pages waiting to be written.
